Class VIII (tilted hub doubling) shows weakly to the south near the end of the third lowest branch on the left side of the target tree.  Photos are cloudy as they were taken with the coin in its original cellophane wrapper.

  • Rev: None noted.  There is strike doubling on the entire left half of the coin.

Class VIII (tilted hub doubling) shows as a portion of an extra branch below the third lowest branch on the left side of the target tree.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Diie dot below Jefferson's right nostril.  Die crack on his upper lip.
  • Rev:  Series of die gouges to the right of the third lowest branch on the right side of the target tree.  Short, vertical die gouge between the "A" and "T" of "STATES."

2005 P WDDR-089 Satin Finish Ocean in View

Class VIII (tilted hub doubling) shows as extra thickness on all the central design elements on the reverse.  Lesser extra thickness shows on the lettering around the rim.  Take care when attributing these "extra thickness" varieties as they are very similar in appearance.  Rely on the die markers to distinguish between them.

  • Obv: Light die scratch from R of LIBERTY to P mintmark.
  • Rev: Short die scratch below numeral 8 of 1805; die dot to left of second wave.
