Description: Class VIII, Tilted Hub Doubling
Close Class VIII doubling shows on the numeral 2 of the date.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Slanted die scratch to left of front of Jefferson's collar; die scratch in hair to upper right of forehead.
  • Rev:  None noted.

1972-D WDDR-001

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
Nice Class II doubling shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, increasing from left to right.  Doubling also shows on the right edge of the building and AMERICA.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Short vertical die gouge near right edge of U of TRUST; die gouge to left of I of IN.
  • Rev:  Die dot inside large center semicircular window.

1972-S WDDR-001 Proof

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
A constant spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM.  A spread toward the center also shows on STATES OF AMERICA where it increases from left to right and on the right side of the building.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  None noted.
  • Rev:  Die gouge between P of PLURIBUS and rim; die gouge above right porch; die gouge (dot) inside C of MONTICELLO.

1972-S WDDR-002 Proof

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
A constant spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM.  A closer spread toward the center shows on STATES OF AMERICA and ELLO of MONTICELLO where it increases from left to right and on the top and right side of the building.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Small short vertical die gouge in field at top of head; small die gouge at rim between N of IN and G of GOD.
  • Rev:  Small die gouge (dot) to lower left of C of CENTS.

1972-S WDDR-003 Proof

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
Close Class II doubling shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, increasing slightly from left to right.  Very close doubling shows on OF AMERICA and the right side of the building.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Short die crack just above upper rear portion of Jefferson's collar.
  • Rev:  Small die gouge (dot) to left of upper left portion of second U of PLURIBUS; short die gouge on rim west of E of E PLURIBUS UNUM; short slanted die scratch between upper portions of third and fourth columns; short slanted die scratch extends from upper right portion of fourth column.
