Description: Class II + VI, Distorted and Distended Hub Doubling
Very close Class II and VI doubling shows as extra thickness with slight separation on IN GOD WE TRUST.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Die dot to left of Y of LIBERTY; die dot below first T of TRUST.
  • Rev:  Die gouge below second A of AMERICA; diagonal die scratch from top of "D" mintmark.

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
Very close Class II doubling shows on the tops of the letters of WE TRUST.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Series of strong die scratches near back of Jefferson's head below LIB of LIBERTY; short strong die scratch on upper back of collar and queue; die gouge to left of each vertical bar of U of TRUST.
  • Rev:  Slanted die scratches through UNU of UNUM; series of die scratches above CENTS.

Description: Class V, Pivoted Hub Doubling     "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die Varieties
Class V doubling shows on LIBERTY, the star and the date.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Die scratches above numerals 1 and 9 of date; series of almost vertical die scratches between back of Jefferson's shoulder and queue.
  • Rev:  Die dot below second L of MONTICELLO; die scratches through V of FIVE.  Possible S/S

Close Class II doubling shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, increasing from left to right.  Doubling shows slightly on AMERICA.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Strong N/S die gouges at top right of Jefferson's forehead; die scratches through BER of LIBERTY.
  • Rev:  Many die scratches in right arch; slanted die scratch inside lower portion of D of UNITED.

A Class V CCW spread shows on LIBERTY, the star and the date.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Short die gouge from right side of L of LIBERTY; die gouges in and around B of LIBERTY; die gouge on left side of G of GOD.
  • Rev:  Die dot between I and V of FIVE; long slanted die scratch below CENTS.
