Description: Class VI, Distended Hub Doubling     "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die Varieties
Extreme extra thickness shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, AMERICA, and ELLO of MONTICELLO.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Die scratch below Jefferson’'s chin; series of die scratches to right of second T of TRUST.
  • Rev:  Die gouge inside lower portion of R of AMERICA.

1950 WDDR-001 Proof

Description: Class II + V, Distorted and Pivoted Hub Doubling
A nice Class II spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS, ELLO of MONTICELLO and the right side of the building.  All spreads increase from left to right.  A close CW spread shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM.  

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Die gouge (dot) on Jefferson’s jaw; die scratch SSE from upper right tip of Y of LIBERTY.
  • Rev:  Diagonal die scratch above small right window at roof line; die gouge to right center of long right window.

1950 WDDR-002 Proof

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
Close Class II doubling shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, increasing from left to right.  

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Short die gouge from rim between E of WE and T of TRUST; series of die dots to right of Jefferson’s eye.
  • Rev:  Die scratch to left of small left window; die dot inside large semicircular window.

1950 WDDR-003 Proof

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
A Class II spread shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, decreasing slightly from left to right.  Slight doubling shows on STATES OF AMERICA.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Series of die scratches to right of Jefferson’s ear.
  • Rev:  Die gouge (dot) to right of long left window; slanted die scratch between fourth column and long right window; die gouge (dot) in field on lower right side of dome; die scratch in field from right porch extending to second U of UNUM.

1950 WDDR-004 Proof

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
Nice Class II doubling shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with both spreads increasing from left to right.  Doubling also shows on FIVE CENTS, LLO of MONTICELLO, and the right side of the building.  Tripling shows on UNUM.

Markers: 

  • Obv:  Die dot to right of Jefferson’s eye; three die gouges on necktie below chin.
  • Rev:  Slanted die gouge from rim between and above B and second U of PLURIBUS.
