Description: Class II + VI, Distorted and Distended Hub Doubling
Nice Class II and Class VI doubling shows on LIBERTY, the star and the date.  Tripling is evident on the lower portion of the 1 of date and Y of LIBERTY.

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling
A strong spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM and slightly on AMERICA.  The spreads increase from left to right.

  • Rev:  Several stages exist with a short diagonal die gouge through the lower right of the first L of MONTICELLO visible on all stages.

Description: Class II, Distorted Hub Doubling     "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die Varieties
A strong constant spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM.  A lesser spread shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.  Evidence of tripling shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM and some upper serifs of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

  • Obv:  Die gouge (dot) just right of bottom of 5 of date.
  • Rev:  Strong die gouge SSE from upper right of E of STATES; two die gouges (dots) above E of CENTS.

A very strong spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM decreasing from left to right.  A very strong constant spread shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS and MONTICELLO.  Doubling also shows on both sides of the building.  Tripling can be seen on many letters, especially on UNITED STATES.
